Red Hill Community Elevated Storage Tank Project Information

TO: Red Hill Community

FROM: Michael Fu Man Yip, Operations Director, Georgetown County Water and Sewer District

SUBJECT: Major Construction – Connection of the New Elevated Storage Tank

DATE: June 29, 2026

Georgetown County Water and Sewer District (GCWSD) will be performing major construction to connect the new Elevated Storage Tank to the Red Hill Water System.

To complete this work safely, the water system will be temporarily taken out of service. As a result, customers in the Red Hill service area will experience little to no water pressure during the construction period.

The work is scheduled for:

Tuesday, July 7, 2026

9:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m.

GCWSD requests that customers limit water usage during this time. Please make advance preparations by storing sufficient water for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and other essential household needs. If possible, postpone activities that require significant water use, such as laundry, irrigation, or filling swimming pools, until normal service has been restored.

Every effort will be made to complete the work as quickly as possible and minimize the duration of the service interruption. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this important improvement to increase the reliability and capacity of the Red Hill Water System.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will customers notice changes in water pressure?

Yes. Customers served by the Red Hill Water System should expect little to no water pressure between 9:00 a.m. and approximately 5:00 p.m. while the new elevated storage tank is connected to the distribution system.

What should customers do after water service is restored?

Once construction is complete, water pressure will gradually return to normal.

Because the distribution system will have experienced a loss of pressure, GCWSD will issue a Boil Water Advisory as a precautionary measure. The District will collect bacteriological water samples and analyze them to verify that the water is safe for consumption.

The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until laboratory results confirm the water meets all drinking water standards. Customers will be notified when the advisory has been lifted.

During the Boil Water Advisory, customers should bring all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or preparing food to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute before use.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the Georgetown County Water and Sewer District Customer Service Department at (843) 546-8408.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete this critical infrastructure improvement to better serve the Red Hill community.
