FUNDING RECEIVED FOR PLEASANT HILL/FOLLY GROVE COMMUNITY WATER SYSTEM
Residents of the Georgetown County community of Pleasant Hill/Folly Grove are on their way to having a safe, reliable, high quality water supply system thanks to the support of the local community and the United States Department of Agriculture. The Georgetown County Water and Sewer District Board of Directors, on June 9th, officially signed the loan and grant documents launching this important water improvements project.

Chairman Bill Schwartzkopf stated: “The District is proud to partner with the residents of the Pleasant Hill/Folly Grove community to help them improve their quality of life. We are most appreciative of the support provided by Congressman Clyburn and the USDA.”

The Federal Government, through the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development is providing two low interest loans in the amount of $3,174,000 and a $985,000 Federal Grant. Georgetown County Water and Sewer District is contributing $295,400. Board Member, Jimmy Rowe stated that “this $4.47 million dollar project will eliminate community concerns over poor water quality, depleted local wells and water supply reliability. I know that the community is grateful for the fire hydrants to be provided where none existed before. Especially important to the community is improved water service and fire protection to be provided for the Pleasant Hill Elementary School; the only designated Hurricane Evacuation Shelter in Georgetown County.”

“Clean water is the key to the sustainability of any community.  I am pleased the Pleasant Hill/Folly Grove communities will now have access to reliable, clean drinking water,” Congressman Clyburn said. “The improved water quality and accessibility will have a tremendously positive impact on the health and well-being of all who live in this area.”

Mr. Rowe, a resident of the community and a long-time supporter of expanded water service to the area further stated: “I am so very pleased with the cooperation of the people of Pleasant Hill/Folly Grove, as well as the Federal Government and Georgetown County Water and Sewer District for making this much needed project possible”.

This project, one of the largest water distribution projects for the District in Western Georgetown County to date, includes over 27 miles of pipeline and 88 fire hydrants dispersed throughout the community.
